Safety guides every decision at Guardian - from how drivers are hired, to how buses are inspected, to how routes are operated day after day. Our approach is structured around three foundations: safe drivers, safe practices, and safe equipment.
The School Bus Advantage
The safest way to get to school.
Transport Canada reports that taking a school bus is safer than any other way for students to travel to school, including walking, cycling, or being driven in a passenger vehicle. School buses are built to stricter standards than any other road vehicle, with high-backed, closely spaced, padded seating designed to protect children in a crash.
Safe Drivers
Selected for experience, professionalism, and judgment.
Guardian drivers are selected through structured hiring practices that emphasize experience, professionalism, and judgment.
Every Guardian Driver:
Holds the appropriate licensing and qualifications for school transportation (including medical fitness-to-drive and a Driver's Abstract in good standing
Clears a criminal record check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening
Is compensated at highly competitive daily rates that reflect our requirement for responsibility and experience
Participates in ongoing training, procedural refreshers, and regular performance reviews
Is certified in CPR and First Aid
Is eligible for safety performance bonuses for consistently demonstrating strong safety performance and procedural compliance
Safe Practices
Structured for consistency and accountability.
Guardian operates under formal safety systems designed to reinforce consistency and accountability.
Guardian holds a National Safety Code (NSC) Safety Fitness Certificate, issued by Alberta Transportation.
Safe Equipment
Defects get reported, flagged, and resolved - fast.
Guardian maintains its fleet through frequent inspection and a digital defect-tracking and maintenance-logging system. The moment a driver reports a defect, it flags our Safety and Maintenance Officers directly for review.
Every trip follows the same flow:
Pre-Trip Inspection
The driver inspects the bus before the route begins.
Underway
The driver is continuously responsible for the safety of the bus and its passengers for the full trip.
Post-Trip Inspection
The driver inspects the bus again at the end of the route, including the mandatory check that no one is left on board.
A defect can be logged at any point - before, during, or after a trip - and immediately alerts our Safety and Maintenance Officers.
If a defect takes a bus out of service, Guardian can deploy a spare unit within minutes - we run one spare bus for every three in daily service, so a mechanical issue never puts a route at risk.
Beyond day-to-day inspection, every bus also undergoes a comprehensive Commercial Vehicle Inspection (CVIP) at a certified station twice a year.
Guardian buses are equipped with additional safety equipment selected to enhance visibility, driver awareness, and operational control.
