School Bus Aide (special needs route)

What you will do

• Supervise students continuously while onboard and during loading and unloading
• Assist with boarding and unloading, including operation of wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement systems
• Complete post-trip child checks and seating and attendance accountability
• Keep the driver informed of anything affecting the driver's ability to safely operate the vehicle
• Respond to emergencies in accordance with the Incident Response Plans, supporting evacuation, first aid, and student accountability
• Complete required documentation, including the Daily Rider Verification Log and incident or behaviour reports as needed
• Maintain the confidentiality of student information and comply with the Drug & Alcohol, Confidentiality, and Social Media policies
• Comply with the Aide Handbook and all Company policies

What you need

• Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification appropriate to student transportation
• Completion of the Autism Internet Modules: Many Faces of Autism, and Sensory Differences
• Experience or aptitude working with children, particularly those with additional support needs, preferred
• Valid photo driver's licence on file for identification purposes (not required to operate the vehicle)
• Child Intervention Record Check

Working conditions

• This Role Profile describes the position generally and does not list every duty. It may be revised by the Company from time to time to reflect operational or regulatory requirements.
• Split-shift schedule (AM and PM routes), Monday to Friday during the school year
• Physical ability to assist students with boarding and unloading, lifting or supporting mobility devices, and responding quickly in an emergency
• Close, ongoing physical proximity to students requiring supervision and support
